On recent form it may be a surprise to see Merdon Castle as our selection here, however I’m hoping that a return to the all-weather may spark some improvement from the five-year-old. A winner of a class 2 race off a mark of 95 a couple of years back, today he finds himself in a class 6 race off a mark of just 65 and returns to a track where he has placed twice from two previous runs.
Billyoakes and Malaysian Boleh have both won off much higher marks in the past but both have been running on the all-weather in recent months and neither have managed to show much improvement despite slipping down the weights yet rate as the biggest dangers as the remainder of the field are even harder to fancy.
