CAN HE MAINTAIN 100% COURSE AND DISTANCE RECORD?

There’s just the five runners set to lineup in this small field race at the Midlands venue where one of the main protagonists Giogiobbo has yet to taste success in 18 starts since moving from France. The horse, in my mind, has lost interest and ran no race earlier in the week and gives me little hope of a different outcome today.

Diamond Dougal has never raced on this surface which means he has obvious risks attached.

Thegreatestshowman was 3rd over course and distance on Tuesday and should be able to make the frame once more.

Ornate is the current market favourite and the tough front runner has won around this course and distance before. However, this horse hasn't won since June 2019 (22 races since his last victory) which was at Beverley and that was in a three horse race.

With the above in mind my preference is for Twany Port who doesn't race at this venue all that often but is 2 in 2 at this course and distance so clearly has a liking for this track. Is only 2lb higher than his last Southwell success. Trainer Stuart Williams is on fire and is currently operating at strike rate of 17% and jockey Richard Kingscote has been grabbing the winners as well. He looks the sensible and more obvious selection.
