CAN CARR'S CITY COME OUT ON TOP?

Some solid apprentices grab rides in the final race on the card at Ripon in this apprentice jockeys contest where it looks drastically open.

Top weight Mikmak looks thrown in after winning a Class 4 race last time and now drops into Class 6 company with just 1lb more on his back. He’s the favourite and looks generous at a current price of 7/2 however in a race of this nature I’ve pinpointed one at much bigger odds.

Ruth Carr’s City Wanderer has been poor of late but a return to turf should certainly be of benefit. When the horse resided at the yard of Mick Channon he claimed wins on softer ground, which he’s due to get today. He also resides off a 24lb lower mark since his last victory. Of course he needs to improve markedly on what he’s shown so far but it wouldn’t be unusual to see his trainer find one show improvement and go well at a big price.
