ALCOHOL TO FLOW

14:10 Newbury

Make sure you watch this race and watch it again, plenty of future winners will come out of this. However, without current form these type of races can be very hard to predict. There have been many precocious 2YO’s that have failed to train on as 3YO’s. Trainers are cautiously stepping up in distance and remember this is a Classic trial. This race is a prep race for the Guineas so expect many to improve for the run.

On to today’s contest, I was extremely impressed by Dandalla last year and expect her to put in a big run here. She won three races at two before disappointing on her final start in the Cheveley Park at Newmarket. Her trainer is reportedly much happier with her now than he was at the end of last season. If she stays she is a massive danger but I do think she will end up a sprinter and could be a Commonwealth Cup winner. Similar comments apply to Isabella Giles who failed to stay 1m on her final run. She has wins over todays trip of 7F but again I think will end up a sprinter.

Last season’s Cheveley Park stakes could be key to today’s race with no fewer than five runners from that race coming here. The race was won by the Andrew Balding trained Alcohol Free who toughed it out nicely, best of the rest was Umm Kultham who was 3/4L back in third. Alcohol Free stayed on very well that day and whilst she may not stay the Guineas trip todays 7F may prove to be her best trip. The Cheveley Park form is the best on offer here and she looks the most likely winner.

I can see some very lightly raced horses improving dramatically from last year and making the frame. Wild Iris is a big price for a Gosden/ Dettori horse and can outrun her odds.

Another who needs some dramatic improvement is the Varian trained Zaajirah who should be staying on at the end of the race. Her only run was a winning one in a Novice at Kempton in October. Given her connections she is definitely one to keep on side this year.

Alcohol Free may or not be a Guineas horse but has the best 2YO form and looks the most likely winner here, 7F should be fine for her and Zaajirah can follow her home.
